Marino English (Norfolk, 1758 - Gulf of Cadiz, 1805). He joined the Royal Navy from the age of twelve, sailing on the ship of an uncle, at twenty was already captain. Participated in major naval battles, including the taking of Corsica (where he lost an eye, 1774) and War of Independence against the thirteen British colonies in North America (1775-1783). But it was in the wars against revolutionary France where he became a symbol of heroism for the British: in those wars reached the rank of admiral, was ennobled (Baron Viscount in 1798 and in 1801) and found his lover, Lady Hamilton.
